When asked to create a short video with the LomoKino, I was a little intimidated.
I have always had a very strong interest in film making but make my living photographing fashion for advertising clients and magazines.

The current 'fashion film' trend is something I've been very hesitant to become involved with as I am in no way confident in my film making skills! It's taken me 8 years of study and practice to get where I am as a photographer. Just because our current digital cameras are capable of making films, surely doesn't mean we as photographers are! However, the LomoKino seemed a much more inviting (and challenging) instrument to make me slow down, really plan out and consider these shots and the final video.

Instead of doing something fashion focused, I called upon a very talented team to help me create this Frankensteinian combination of music video/lighting test / happy accident.

Simone Page Jones (a Melbourne based singer-songwriter genius) created a song for the video. This sound is a far cry from Simone's usual style, but I knew only she could bring this sultry cat call early 60s garage inspired song to life. All I asked was that it has hand claps, a bit where she breaks it down and talks in the middle, and it had to be haunting yet inviting at the same time. A bit like an underwater siren song from a female Elvis. I imagine that is quite a lot to ask, but Simone understood instantly.

Simone is also the star, our very own video vixen.

Megan Harrison brought the Bridgette Bardot out of Simone for the day of shooting, with a sky-high beehive and cat eyes while Jade Leung brought all the leopard, polka dots, mohair and an all-important Fez to the table. It is worth noting however that the all in one leopard catsuit is Simone's own. Meow!

Styled all in baby pink, pastel blue, red & leopard, this little pulp rockabilly siren song video is a combination of all the things I love. Great music, beehives, shoulder shimmies, a feisty leading lady & glitter curtains.

I hope you enjoy our little creation!

(Oh and watch out for a cameo from Nathan the pooch!)
