Solo Biking Routes: Biking by the Marikina River

I will be honest, I haven’t ridden a bike since I was 12, and that was 10 years ago, i’m not even sure if I still know how to ride a bike. But that won’t stop me from writing an article about a great biking location.

Marikina, my home town, is quite well-known for having a clean river and despite the fact that it overflows during typhoons, the local government decided to build a park along this river. Riverbanks as they call it, has been one of the local attractions to go to when you are bored at home, or want to bond with the family but on a tight budget.

The park is only a few steps from my home so I am able to visit it frequently — in the morning it is a place for joggers, and people exercising. By afternoon, people start arriving, families having picnics and friends gathering just to pass the time. Also, the bikers start to arrive.

From small children to old people, the place is like a biking sanctuary. And don’t you worry if you don’t have a bicycle, there is a bicycle rental there too, for only 40 pesos (1 dollar) you can borrow a bicycle for an hour.

Tired of biking? It is always a very pleasing place to spend time watching the river flow specially with your loved ones, or even watch how the colors of the sky changes from blue to orange and pink. Skateboarders also gather around the place usually when the sky is starting to get dark.

This place is one of my favorite photo walking spots because there are always things to shoot, if you will notice I have quite a number of albums (which photos are shot in this place) in my lomohome. If ever you come and visit Marikina, be sure to put Riverbank in your checklist especially if you are a bike enthusiast!
