A while ago I found 4 unexposed rolls of film in my old camera bag. What to do? I bought a Sprocket Rocket and became a member of the Lomography society!

About two month ago I found 4 unexposed rolls of film in my old camera bag. The film was over 10 years old and I was uncertain what to do with it. Then I remembered seeing some photos on the internet with the sprocket exposed and I thought it would be nice to do something similar. But since my old slr could not do this I started to browse around the net and finally ended up here, on Lomography.com, and after reading some blogpost I found out that a Sprocket Rocket would suit me the most.

So a month ago I went downtown and bought myself a brand new black Sprocket Rocket. I really didn’t know what to expect from it, but the exposed sprockets and the panorama format appealed to me. After loading it with an outdated roll of Kodak Gold 200 I went out and started shooting. It immediate became clear to me that this camera had only one setting for the exposure time and just two settings for the aperture. Used to be able to change whatever setting I wanted with my old camera this felt very strange. I was worried about the exposure most of the time and in combination with the expired film I wasn’t sure I would get any usable photos at all.

Today I got my developed film back and to my surprise most of the film was usable. Not great, not good, not even average but usable. The exposure on most frames was under by one or two stops and on a few frames it was more than 4 stops making those frames almost completely black.

After scanning them (read photographed them with my dslr) I found out how hard it is to invert a negative and get the right colors. And to get the colors right with an underexposed and expired film was even harder. After some final exposure and color adjustments in Lightroom I’m now very happy to give you my first lomographic pictures!

Big hugs,

Cojo
